That's Neville kicked into retirement. Now we are The Gladiators. Apparently he’s going to regenerate, Dr Who style!

Brave move promotion but a good one Imo. They've already freshened the place up. Now a new name to stamp their seal on it. Gives a fresh feel to it. No one ever moved forward by standing still

This needed to be done, hopefully this will secure the long term future of Speedway in Plymouth. It mentions in the article on here, that the promotion want the track being a fortress and hostile for away teams.Just some ideas, which may already be in the pipe line. How about getting permission from the people, who ran The Gladiators tv series and use the music as a club theme.Every time the riders enter the track, for a race it plays. And if a 5-1 heat win it plays, would get the atmosphere going. And see if there is anyone who would be confident in being a race result entertainer/announcer getting the crowd going. So when a 5-1 to us,do like some teams in other sports do.So your heat winner is.....he says the riders first name and the crowd shout his surname, this would get repeated a number of times to get the noise up.Same for the rider who comes 2nd.Then the announcer shouts something like GO GLADIATORS GO GLADIATORS again the crowd get involved. So many ideas the club can look at.And this partnership, just think how many riders have Cobra garage Mahal on their leathers,or bikes. This could also attract riders, for future seasons especially if the club decided eventually to move back up a league. There will certainly be a lot of raised eyebrows, around Speedway GB right now. There will be a large number of clubs looking nervously over their shoulders at us,especially the big hitter clubs in the Championship.Well done to the promotion, and all who made this happen.Onwards and upwards to a bright future.

Very surprised by this announcement, but what a brilliant one. The Plymouth Gladiators, this sounds great and riding at The Plymouth Coliseum, wow! A new beginning, new colours, this is very refreshing, well done to all involved, let’s bring on the racing.

After 24 hours I'm liking the rebranding to Gladiators. With all that will go to making the changes, colours etc, I think it will bring forth a breath of fresh air and newcomers to the sport. I do think the track name change a step too far, almost tacky? Only my opinion and yes, that might change. I'll always regard it as the SBA, it's an ARENA after all? I, like everyone else on here, can't wait for the start of the new season with a fresh look, a new team bar two, and the new colours. Well done the Promotion. Roll on Spring.

I think chris1stbenddevil's idea with the Gladiators TV show theme tune would be great as our club theme tune,I have just listened to it all the way through and it is very rousing which is what we need for our new image.

First let me wish the promoters all the very best with re/naming-re branding of the Plymouth speedway team and venue. Past promoters may have got it wrong running in the old P/L with there commercial out look, but please look back on all the very top riders who pulled on a Plymouth bib (breast plate)and gave us some top quality racing at home and away over the seasons in the old P/L. Plus let us not forget against all odds in the last season in the P/L at Peterborough over one of the very best week ends of speedway held at Peterborough, we lifted the 4/team tournament trophy. The N/L is what it is and this is the league we race in now, Once again I will start the season with an open view. My only hope is that some thing can be done to up grade the track, because the dust at times quite bad, plus the taking off/on of the shale each week I had not witnessed before at any track. Once again all the very best wishes to the promoters for the 2019 season.

The taking on/off of the shale was a pain in the ass, prima donna’s wishes to stay clean comes to mind . When the track has enough water to keep the dust at bay some riders didn’t like it and complained to the “non rider” referee. Rather than just getting on with the job in hand . So the dirt had to be moved off again, I believe if the tracks were prepared like Exeter in days gone buy some riders wouldn’t even get their bikes out of the vans. We could run water around every two heats but people don’t like to see the tractor on track , Tractor , or Dust.... a debate for years to come . Hopeful more fresh shale will be readily available this season .Hopefully we can sort this problem. mark
