Centurions v Lion Cubs Preview May 23, 2022 The Plymouth SWTR Centurions return to action on Tuesday at The Coliseum against the 2019 NDL Champions the Leicester Lions Cubs.
The Cubs have made a strong start to the 2022 NDL season with 2 Home wins from their 3 Matches and will provide formidable opposition for a Centurions side shorn of their No 1 and talisman Dan Gilkes, due to a long term injury and their no 2 rider Henry Atkins who has decided to seek opportunities elsewhere in the Sport.
We await news of the full Centurions 1-7 and will update supporters as soon as it’s available but we can confirm that Richard Andrews, Adam Extance, Connor King, Ben Trigger and Eli Meadows will complete the septet with Team Manager Mattie Bates having booked Westcolour Gladiators star Alfie Bowtell (who rides for Kent in the NDL) as a Guest for Dan Gilkes.
The Lion Cubs are led by the Thompson twins, Dan and Joe who are amongst the very best riders at this level, they have very strong backing from Connor Coles, a former Gladiator in the Clubs earlier NDL spell and steeped in West Country and Exeter Falcons tradition from his legendary grandfather Bob and father Michael, Connor is joined by the under-rated Tom Spencer who is making steady progress each season and Mickie Simpson and Vinnie Joe Foord, two of the next generation of rapidly emerging Speedway talent on the Team GB Youth conveyor belt will be joined by Kai Ward, who has stepped in to replace another prodigious young talent in Max Perry who is currently injured.

I’m coming to support the young ones tonight but looking at Leicester apart from Alfie and young Ben trigger I fear it could be a bit of pasting let’s hope not though.

Well after a really stop-start beginning I really enjoyed that even if it was the Alfie and Ben show.
I guess the problem for the others is that they just don't get the amount of racing and track time that most of those Leicester lads get, but good effort none the less.
It just wasn't happening for Richie, Adam and Connor tonight and fair play to Ben P and Eli for keeping on keeping on.

Personally I think there's a lot of dead wood in the side. But as matt said (somewhere) there's not a lot of riders out there at the moment. As usual Ben and Alfie were the stars of the side, but not a bad score line considering the strength of the cubs side. Well done one and all.
