With kind permission from Mark, I am able to bring an update of what is happening down the track, to all of our members that haven't or cannot get facebook.
Week 16.
The winter project is now steadily coming to a completion and this week’s work added to the sense of expectation and satisfaction at what has been achieved because it was time to put the floodlights and speakers back up: another piece of the jigsaw put in.
Taking the floodlights and speakers down was the first job done on the project, way back in September, so it was pleasing to see it come ‘full circle’ although we are not finished yet.
This is always a fiddly job as it takes quite a long time to do. There are the repeated ups and downs on the ladders, loads of spanner work and a great deal of positioning. All in all, it is a whole day job but the objective was achieved and they were all finally in position. Next was the grand switch on. Fingers crossed, and on they came. Super. The lights were shining again.
A satisfactory day indeed.
Week 17
This week we had two main objectives: finish off putting the blue pipe on bends one and two (how lovely) and to join the air fences together and fix them to the fence.
The blue pipe was the morning job and although it presented itself with the usual frustrations and difficulties, we finally tamed it and hammered it into position. It was such a relief to get it done, and in a quicker time than bends three and four. We must be learning something.
In the afternoon, we unrolled the air fences, zipped them together (that is not the easiest job either) and then fitted them to the new back fence.
Finally, we got the blower out, switched it on and waited. Success, as up they went. We could now really see that we are getting the Plymouth Coliseum back on track (excuse the pun).
Another piece fitted to the jigsaw. And whilst all this excitement was going on, the painting continued.
This is going to be the last report on our winter work but we will have one final report to put out and that is when the work is all finished. We hope that you have enjoyed reading about our work and we hope it has given you a little insight into what has gone on during the off season. We also hope that it has kept your enthusiasm for Plymouth Speedway burning. There is still a bit to do but it won’t be long so keep looking in.
Robin was again on hand to oversee our work and throughout the winter he has been a mainstay with us. He has been true leader. Thank you very much Boss!!
Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely comments we have received throughout the winter, especially during awful weather we have had. They have kept us going and they have been so kind, polite and uplifting. Thank you again.
The Boss refers to a very friendly Robin, who keeps his beady eye on all that happens.
